Travelling Africa is eventful! Tuesday we said good-bye to Sharyn’s village
father and brother and set out. We
bounced through potholes for about 3 hours of cross country driving. Great scenery and the villages along the way
are quite interesting. We shared the
road with bikes, goats, huge overloaded trucks and buses, motorcycles, herds of
cows, and women with huge basins of stuff on their heads.
We got to Boromo for a late lunch at a
popular outdoor café. (The one below.) Who should we
meet there but Phil Bergen! Now we had
hoped to encounter Phil and his wife Carol because they are Mennonite Brethren missionaries in
Burkina Faso and we have followed their stories for many years about their work
among the Nanerge. But Phil was out of
country for his daughter’s wedding and just returning while we were here. So no hope of seeing him. But God had a divine appointment for
us! Had a great stand-up visit and met
some of his colleagues who were travelling with him.
Our order of chicken and fries took quite
awhile but was worth waiting for!
As we
were about to leave, Sharyn noticed a low tire. That meant a stop for tire repair at the roadside service!
After 3 hours in Boromo we were back on the
road for another 4 hours of driving.
Along the way we stop to get the tarp retied. All our luggage is under there.
Our delays meant coming to Ouaga in rush hour traffic. Ouaga is a city of around 2 million, with a
lot of sprawl because there are not many high rises. Sharyn is skilful driver, whether it’s dodging pot holes on the
highway, or weaving through dense traffic in the city! We were happy to be back home at the SIL Centre.
