The
Vision of Wycliffe Bible Transalators
God's
Word accessible to all people in the language of their heart.
Wycliffe was
founded in 1942 by William
Cameron Townsend. A missionary to the Cakchiquel
Indians of Guatemala, Townsend caught the vision for translation when
Cakchiquel-speaking men expressed their concern that the Bible was not
available to them in the language they understood clearly. As a result,
Townsend resolved that every man, woman and child should be able to read God’s
Word in their own language.
Most people are surprised to hear that
*
There are over 6,900 languages in use around the world
today.
*
More than 380 million people speaking 4,147 different
languages
do not have any part of God's Word available in the
languages they know best.
*
There is no translation project yet begun for the speakers
of 2,737 languages.
Vision 2025
"By 2025, together with partners worldwide, we aim to see a Bible translation programme begun in all the remaining languages that need one."
They've waited long enough... for God's Word in their
language!
