Burkina

A family connection to Burkina, through Rose, our daughter-in-law.
Check out the story of Rose below the map.  Burkina Faso was formerly know as Republic of Upper Volta because the Volta River flows through the country.  In 1960 the country achieved independence from France and in 1984 it was named Burkina Faso, meaning
                   "country of honourable people."

25 years ago Rose went to Burkina for a 1-year mission experience with African Inter-Mennonite Mission and fell in love with the people and the place. Much of her time was spent in and around Bobo Dioulasso, 5 hours south west of the capital, Ouagadougou.  She had the opportunity to serve with her brother Elmer Thiessen and his family and with other missionaries.  Shortly after her return to Canada she and our son John were married.  Now their daughter Jillian is traveling with us and is excited to visit the country her mom often refers to.  But more of that later!
