Church! Dancing and singing! Young boys keeping their eyes on the
white folks at the back.Cute babies bouncing on mother's backs! Rhythm
is in their bones from infancy! It was "Women's Sunday" so the women
led the music and the pastor's wife preached a good half hour sermon.
After church a dozen young men were very interested in shaking Jillian’s hand! There was
lots of joking with her grandad about her marriageability. Not enough
cows in the village to win her hand!
The women provided lunch for everyone – huge basins of TOH
(tow) served with sauce with fish
Sunday afternoon was a time of rest at Sharyn’s place –
sitting under the thatch and visiting until dark.
On Sunday evening at 9 singing and dancing started at the church, to celebrate Women's Day. It was supposed to end at midnight but we woke around 3 and the music could still be heard - through a loudspeaker! We were wishing for good earplugs! The Monday morning prayer meeting was starting at 4 am - that's right, 3 times a week there is prayer meeting from 4 to 5 am! Ken decided to get up and go. The dancing eventually ended and prayer service began.
Ken photographed some night scenes of the 20 people who were still dancing in circles outside around the musicians. About 30 were present for the prayer meeting, which was really a short service. Dawn broke as everyone disbursed and the farmers left for their fields. When I woke at 5:45 Ken was back in bed for an extra snooze.
