Jillian, our granddaughter

Jillian, our oldest granddaughter, is coming to Burkina Faso with us. She is taking grade 11 in French immersion at Kelvin High School.  Because this is her 12th year of French, she is fluently bilingual.  We only know basic greetings in French, so Jillian will be translating for us.  Today, October 13th, Jillian did a swim-athon to raise money for her trip.  She swam 10 kilometers and is hoping that donations will cover the majority of her expenses!  She already received over $1000, thanks to generous relatives and friends.

Here's the background to this.  In June we invited Jillian to have lunch with us.  We talked of many things including her courses and our trip to Burkina.  During the meal, Carolee left the dining room and suddenly felt that we should ask Jillian to come with us.  In the meantime, I thought, "Jillian, you should come with us to Burkina."  Just then Carolee entered and said, "Jillian, you should come with us to Burkina."  My jaw dropped!  She had taken the words out of my mouth!  We felt that it was a God moment!

Jillian was super excited.  She has read about 20 missionary biographies and has participated in several short term missions.  We were embarrassed that we had bypassed her parents, so we checked with them and they were pleased!  Her mom has spent a year in Burkina and is sharing many memories of that time. (See the Burkina tab to read Rose's experience.)
